  1. Professor Elder is AMAZING. I would take any class he teaches. He's a compelling speaker, but he's also one of the kindest, most brilliant professors I've ever had. A fabulous class.
  2. John Elder is the best professor I've ever had. He's terribly kind and really helpful, but most importantly, he leads his classes with a wisdom and insight that is refreshing and invigorating. I wouldn't hesitate to take any class he offers. As for this class in particular, I found the readings very interesting; there was a wide variety of material. Discussion sections were always interesting, but lectures were amazing. It was always hard to leave when class was over! My favorite Middlebury class so far.

  4. Absolutely, positively, the worst class I have ever had in my life. Discussions were hell, lectures were worse. Not a hard class, by any means; the challenge was fighting the constant urge to get up and leave.
  5. Prof. Elder is brilliant and is really caring- you really feel like he gets to know you personally. The material was not captivating, but there were books that I really enjoyed.
