Evaluation Comments for Intro to Microeconomics

  1. Microeconomics was certainly a good class to take. I mean its an intro econ class so how interesting can it be. That being said Craven goes through all the material thoroughly even if it is a little boring.
  2. Horlacher was awesome! Class was generally pretty boring, but I think that is a product of the subject matter rather than Horlacher as a professor. He can be dry, but he also entertains with stories about his time in the army and at Dartmouth and by cracking quintessential old man jokes. He's great at explaining tricky concepts and does a really good job ensuring that all of his students grasp the material during class. That being said, there was quite a bit of outside work for this class. Be prepared for reading outside novels and writing short - usually 2 pages or so - essays about them, frequent, long problem sets that sometimes contain material not covered in class, and 3 exams. There were also 5 "pop" quizzes throughout the semester, but Horlacher would usually make warning announcements during the class period before, so they really weren't surprising at all. All the work is worth it though, especially if you want to be an Econ major. Despite all the work, I found this class pretty easy, usually just skimming the textbook at breakfast before class (pay attention to the graphs, those are the most important parts of the Colander textbook) and I
