Evaluation Comments for Cohen, R

  1. Cohen is great! Great reading list, good discussions.
  2. This was a very good class over all. The material was all very interesting. You will read some great books. As far as the structure of the class goes, Cohen's lectures are brilliant, but when it's open for discussion, the class is a less interesting. Although he doesn't always seem that into the class, and he encourages meaningless tangents form the class, Cohen is a very good lecturer. His classes are always interesting and engaging. As far as grades go, he is a fairly tough grader-- tougher than the rest of Middkid would suggest.
  3. Rob is a really personable, brilliant guy. His lectures are brilliant and tend to get at the heart of what the literature is about. It's literally 3 hours a week of getting together to shoot the shit about a book you just read, and then occasionally writing a little about them. As far as a low-pressure class that engages you goes, this one is tops. English majors suck though when it comes to fostering an actual discussion, so be prepared for a bunch of other students trying to make a good impression with Cohen while ending sounding disjointed and pretentious.
  4. So chill brah. You only have to read about half of the books, but of course the more you read the more fun you'll have in class. The basic structure was read, discuss, then write (3 essays total), and a few students opted to skip the first two steps entirely. Didn't really matter, I still had a good time and so did Cohen. The books were all pretty good, though it was intimidating starting with Beckett. Probably shoulda saved that one for the end, but then again, it set the framework for the class. The essays were very difficult and time-consuming for me, but I got A's on all of them. So it was worth it. Not too much else to say, definitely the kind of class where you get what you put in. Definitely worth taking a class with this crazy muthaf*r.
