  6. Take the course with Lloyd. She's got a good sense of humor and is concise, but doesn't skip over important information. Her tests aren't hard, just really long, and kind of boring.
  7. While I agree that Andrea Lloyd is the best professor to take Ecology and Evolution with, I didn't find her to be as great as everyone else did. Lloyd is very nice, but I did not have any background knowledge in biology or the major concepts of natural selection and evolution from high school, so I was learning all of this for the first time. Her lectures are power-packed with information and literally EVERY word she says could apply to something on an exam. The Weekly Review Questions that she puts out at the end of the week are not collected or graded, and serve as a good way to prepare for exams. Though, the material on them comes straight from lecture, and unless you've got a tape recorder going, it's hard to get every word she says in lecture. It's frustrating because that one piece of information you don't write down in your notes WILL appear on the Weekly Review Questions and then potentially on the exams. The last exam is 50% new material and 50% cumulative from the whole semester, so definitely review the major concepts covered over the whole semester. Lloyd is very picky on what she is expecting for answers, so you have to study to be able to know how to answer a question the exact way that she wants. Discussions each week were a good way to cement the information and ideas from the weeks lectures.
  8. Andi Lloyd is a phenomenal teacher who makes the lecture part of this course wonderful. However, the long rigorous labs kill the course. The labs extremely boring AND difficult. The lab reports are also difficult.
  9. Professor Lloyd is great! She does an excellent job of presenting what could be considered kind of dry material in an interesting way, going over a case study in each class. She's one of the best professors I've had at Middlebury, very knowledgeable, approachable, and fair. If you're going to take this class, take it with Professor Lloyd!
  10. Professor Lloyd is great! I am going to take more bio classes because I want her to be my teacher again! She does speak very quickly, but she is more than willing to go back and re-explain things in lecture or during office hours...she explains complex ideas pretty well and her enthusiasm for biology is infectious. She also has a great sense of humor! I got a B in the class overall--always did the ungraded weekly review questions and studied pretty hard for tests, but skipped rather a lot of classes (6?) in the middle of the semester. One thing I wished that I'd known prior to signing up was how much we'd be working with excel spreadsheet in lab--the least fun part of the course, but I survived.
  11. the class covers basic biology material. she is a great woman, and a very good, personable teacher. Her grading is very fair, and I could not recommend a better teacher for this course. She is so enthusiastic about bio.
  12. Lloyd is an amazing professor, definitely take this class with her!
  13. Amazing teacher. Every lecture was beautifully laid out and homeworks (which were never collected or graded, but she posted the answers) made it clear exactly what we needed to know. I recommend studying straight from the answers she posts to the homework online! Quizzes were also useful and good preparation for tests.
  14. Professor llyod is great. She is so interested in the material, she manages to make it is interesting for everyone else.
  15. Andy lloyd is an amazing professor. The way she presents lectures is very interesting and engaging. the material is very similar to what a high school biology class would be like, covering lots of material, however, bi-weekly quizes and worksheets are manage able.
  16. TAKE THIS CLASS WITH LLOYD!!! One of the best lecturers I have had at Midd.
  17. I LOVE ANDREA LLOYD!!! i have heard this class is really tough with other profs, but Lloyd is awesome. She really loves the subject and her teaching methods were well organized and really easy to follow. The review questions each week were great study guides that we never turned in. Her exams were actually fun to do because the new examples were so interesting. I came out of all of her exams feeling like i had done a great job, and i did! What a change huh?
  18. If you want to/have to take Ecology and Evolution, Andi Lloyd is the professor to take it with. Her lectures are organized and interesting, she provides good handouts and study guides, and she is just all-around friendly--probably my favorite professor in the biology department.
  19. I could imagine this class being terrible with a different professor, but professor Lloyd was fantastic. She's very well-spoken, and the messages of her lecture are carried across very well. Take this class with Andi if you can - she's quite wonderful.
  20. I took this class to fill a requirement but found myself really enjoying coming to class every day. There were 2 midterms and a final, plus lab stuff. You didn't have to do the reading before class to understand what was going on. I definitely recommend this class and professor!
  21. Professor Lloyd comes to class each day with a smile and is really excited about the material as long as the class shows interest. Tests are thorough but with a little studying not difficult.
  22. The professor was very friendly and knowledgeable. She used power points to present her information so her lecture were sometimes a bit boring; however, she was a great teacher who was willing to help anyone who had questions.
  23. TAKE THIS CLASS WITH PROFESSOR LLOYD. She is one of the best professors I have had at Midd so far. I really like her! She is very passionate about the topics. She knows how to teach and she makes the material easy for you to understand. Lectures are quite interesting. I especially love the extra credit Biology journal that is due once a week. It's a good way to put your Bio knowledge into everyday life. However, this is not a super easy class so put in the time and work, especially for lab. Professor Lloyd grades tests fairly, not harsh at all!
  24. Lloyd is a fantastic lecturer and very understanding about rescheduling exams, meeting to discuss material, etc. The exams covered exactly what we did in class, and the lectures covered everything we needed to know. take this class with lloyd.
  25. I don't really care about ecology; I only took this class to fulfill premed requirements. Even after the semester is over, I don't really care about ecology. However, this course has taught me a grudging respect for the subject, because it definitely gave me an impression of what a big effect the study of ecology has on the world around us, and all the real-world applications of the things we were learning in lecture. Despite my lack of interest for the subject in general, I found Lloyd to be a fantastic teacher. Her lectures were very interesting and informative. She was always friendly and helpful, and extremely understanding about rescheduling exams or extending deadlines. She tries to make it as easy as possible to learn and study the material: there are handouts which outline each day's lecture, and she provides weekly review questions (which are not required), as well as the answer keys to the review questions. These are an excellent study tool for the exams. I found that the exams covered exactly the material we had learned (no random unintelligible questions thrown on there like there is in some classes), and generally the exams were very easy.
  26. Lloyd is an awesome professor, she makes lecture really interesting. If you have to take this course, definitely take it with her! She's obviously very passionate about what she teaches, and seemed to explain concepts and answer questions very well. As for the lab part of the course, a lot of it seemed pointless, like having quizzes on identifying different types of leaves. The lab reports were meticulously graded and the standards weren't exactly clear.
  27. I went into this class not interested in ecology or evolution and came out with a new respect for both topics. Lloyd is a FANTASTIC professor. Her lectures aren't scattered and she has enthusiasm for what she teaches. Her weekly review questions are awesome and will be exactly like what you see on exams. She's not a fan of multiple choice on her exams since she loves application questions. Do the weekly review questions, understand them, and you should be golden. At times she can talk pretty quickly in lecture when she is trying to cram a lot of information in. Other than that, good class!
  28. Prof. Lloyd is by far one of the best professors I have ever had. I came into the class expecting it to be really boring, but she made me love the material. The lecture part had very little work, and lab had a reasonable amount of work, as typical for any science class. I definitely recommend this though, even if you aren't a bio major, its really interesting.
  29. Lloyd is the best professor to take this class with. She makes the material really interesting and adds in lots of examples. I'd highly recommend this class.
  30. the lab will keep you on your toes, but andi lloyd's lecturing makes this class worth all the work. she's animated to the point of breathlessness, and passionate in a way that you can't not care about the material while she is teaching it to you. i found it personally challenging as an environmental studies (non-science) major trying to get a cognate, but it was worth the work in the end. for the lecture, all you really have to do are 5 tiny quizzes, and the two exams. but study hard, and be ready to work hard at lab - its worth 50% of your final grade.
  31. Lloyd is probably the best professor I've had so far at middlebury. Maybe the material was just easy (that's probably part of it) but her lectures were very clear and concepts were well explained. We only had one midterm, quizzes and a final. Overall, a fairly easy class.
  32. Prof. Lloyd's lectures were clear and easy to understand. Discussion sections were interesting in that they allowed application of the concepts learned in lecture to real-world issues in ecology, such as invasive beetles in forests. Exams required considerable effort and involved lots of writing, but were good for testing students to apply concepts to actual data.
  33. Lloyd is an amazing professor and lectures were always very interesting. There are also many interesting papers to be read for her discussions. The lab part of the course is a lot of work, but Lloyd definitely makes this course worth taking.
  34. Not very tough but quite interesting.
  35. Professor Lloyd is the best. She made ecology and evolution really interesting. I'm not a biology major, but I would love to take more biology classes based on my experiences in her course.
