  1. I guess it's funny--I loved the material, I think the grade was higher than I deserved--yet I would avoid taking a class with Prof. McCauley and wouldn't recommend this to a friend. This needs more explaining. First, the course discusses the psychology behind our attitudes and behavior towards the environment, and how the environment benefits us psychologically. A lot of the material was fascinating. However, I don't think Prof. McCauley really delivered here. For me, the words that come to mind are: "unstructured." "Unorganized." "Not grounded." These aren't completely fair, but I know that if she just organized the lectures better and provided better guidance, this could have been an awesome course. Instead, I often felt like I was BS-ing my work, whether in group exercises or papers. She would ask how to apply psychological concepts to environmental initiatives, and as a class, we kind of just made stuff up. There just weren't enough real-world examples of putting this into practice, although she did touch on some interesting studies. Overall, I have mixed feelings about the class. The material really was great, but her lectures didn't really enhance them. Do note that this was the first time she taught the class in this form (I believe), and after reading our evals, she might have a better product next time around. It's your call.
