Evaluation Comments for Khalifa, K

  1. Good class, especially to balance out a reading-heavy class load. I took it to fulfill the DED requirement and didn't expect to find it helpful or interesting, but it was really engaging. Khalifa can be intimidating, especially when he asserts certain things are obvious, but if you ask him about them, he isn't condescending. Good for people who don't mind doing an hour or two or work for each class period, only 2 big problem sets and 1 test before the final when I took it. Discussion sections become optional partway through the semester, but I definitely benefited from the extra practice time then.
  2. No Comment
  3. Professor Khalifa clearly has issues. He continually reminds students that he is smarter and has more "letters" than they do and does not respond to anything but Professor or Dr. Khalifa. He would do well to assign material that is actually reflective of what has been taught as opposed to giving exams and assignments that are nearly impossible to complete and very overwhelming.
  4. Strongly recommend this course to any major looking to satisfy the DED requirement. Khalifa is a wonderful professor!
  5. I noticed a strong polarity of people's opinions of Khalifa as a person/professor. Some loved him, finding his corny jokes about himself personable and pleasant. Others tended to think he was rather obnoxious and conceited. If I had to choose one side I'd probably go with the latter, though it became evident by the end of the semester that he really does mean well. As far as the class goes, you'll learn some pretty random stuff, a lot of which I'll hardly ever use in the future. However, this class did get me to critically think in a very different way, which I suppose is beneficial. Khalifa is very thorough with his explanations. Pay attention, take notes (though he puts all the powerpoints online), don't wait until the last second to do the homework/problem sets, and study for the exams, and you should be fine. Don't be afraid to ask questions in this class. It's large size may cause shy people to keep to themselves, but keep in mind you're probably never going to be the only person who doesn't understand something. Everything Khalifa does is reasonable, but be wary of a couple pop quizzes throughout the semester. Good class to take to fulfill the deductive reasoning requirement without having to deal with numbers.
  6. He did a good job at presenting materials in a clear way.
  7. i thought the class the fine. it gets pretty hard towards the end. do the homework and go to class and you'll be fine.
  8. be aware that this is absolutely a DED class. very little philosophy discussed. khalifa is a tougher grade and is sometimes difficult to work with both in class and for 1 on 1 help. not a bad class but be ready for a lot of "math"
  9. be aware that this is a deductive reasoning course for a reason. there is a lot of "math" and a significant amount of the semester is dedicated to proofs.
  10. A straightforward course where the effort made is equivalent to the grade received. Some of the reviews here seem to indicate that it is a relief there are no numbers involved but by the end of the semester, it is actually the opposite. The vague, multiple meanings of language make translation a bit tricky (at least in the final, which was quite different from practice problems). A decent course but one that definitely doesn't offer enough material for three days of class AND a discussion section.
  11. Khalifa is very helpful outside of class, meeting with him can greatly improve your grades if you are struggling
  12. The reading is light but the homework can sometimes be difficult. Logic is a fascinating subject and Professor Khalifa is generally pretty good (but a little disorganized at times).
  13. Great Class! Khalifa knows how to teach logic and it is a very valuable class for anyone to take.
  14. Interesting class...definitely a good way to fulfill your DED requirement, although you shouldn't think that it'll be a breeze if you're not good at math in the first place, because it does get pretty mathy. Just no numbers, thankfully. Khalifa is a strong professor.
  15. This class is awesome!! And don't take it just because your pre-law adviser tells you to... Logic gets very math-ish, but if you are willing to tackle the material, you will be fine, and Professor Khalifa is definitely willing to help you... Start your homework well in advance, otherwise you might end up throwing an all-nighter... A truly great course : )
