Evaluation Comments for Khalifa, K

  1. This was a pretty good class. On the surface, the material didn't seem as applicable to neuroscience as, say, Philosophy of Mind or a similar course might be, but it did make me think about how we know things in neuroscience. Course material aside, I really enjoyed Professor Khalifa as a professor. He was very friendly, made the atmosphere of the class fun, and was very helpful in office hours - he was always willing to talk ideas out with you, which was really helpful when writing papers. He puts all his powerpoint slides on the server, so I found it helpful to not copy down them verbatim, but rather take notes on helpful clarifying facts that he mentions. Also, for the exams, he gives a clear outline of what could potentially be on it, so if you can memorize all of that information (even if it is a lot), you can get a near-perfect score on the exam. As for writing papers, the "writing about philisophy book" that he recomends was really helpful, if you don't have a lot of experience writing philosophy papers. Having a clear thesis and defining it well is very important.
