Evaluation Comments for Manrique-Gomez, M.

  1. pretty easy class, learn a lot about spains history and present..readings can be dull but you can skip on some readings and sneak by without speaking much in class. really nice teacher and solid class
  2. This is an excellent course for anyone interested in studying Spanish culture. Marta is a great professor!
  3. Marta is one tough cookie. She took my previous spanish-skill into account, and skewered me for every minor mistake I made on my essays. While harsh, my writing SIGNIFICANTLY improved by the end of the course. And hey, thats something right? There isnt really a point to take this class unless you plan on studying abroad in Spain. If you are, Marta's your woman. Plus shes an amazing cook and the end of the semester feast is worth taking this class all on its own.
  4. This class wasn't the most interesting class ever, but marta is a great professor. There are three papers, which were fairly easily graded, and a presentation. Marta was very flexible with due dates, if you had a good excuse. Class was led by students, which was kind of cool.
  5. The content in this class is interesting. It is a mix of Spanish history since 1898 and a cultural studies class. Marta grades harder on the first essay but then eases up. She says that she takes off 15% max for grammar, but it seemed as if grammar was all she graded in the essays. For a CW class I would have wished more content feedback as well. When Marta presents she can ramble on without real discussion, though she talks about some interesting topics in Spanish culture. I liked the student presentations best; that's where I learned the most and had the most engaging discussions. I'd recommend this class. The topics are interesting and it will definitely help your spanish skills.
  6. This is a great class and Marta is a great professor who uses her personal experiences to keep the material interesting. This is a college writing course and there is a lot of work but it is definitely worth it if you want to improve your Spanish writing. Each student also had to do an oral presentation on one of the topics, which kept the class interesting as it let you hear other people's views on different topics and facilitated class discussion. Marta uses a lot of outside resources like you tube to supplement her lectures which are based off of power points (but she elaborates extensively on each slide to keep in very interesting). You will learn a lot about Spain in this course, it is definitely worth taking.
