Evaluation Comments for Liebhaber, S

  1. A lot of kids in my class liked to complain about Sam but I thought he was fine. He was responsive to our feedback about what we wanted more/less of in class. He's great at explaining grammatical concepts and he made sure to mix in different types of activities like watching news clips, having debates, etc. so it wasn't all grammar all the time. My writing definitely improved too. He's not a native speaker so that's kind of a strike against him - I'd prefer to listen to a professor with an authentic accent, and occasionally you'll hear him make grammatical mistakes. But still, not bad.
  2. While Professor Liebhaber is phenomenal at expounding intricate grammatical structures and eloquently articulating complex aspects of the Arabic language, he is a bit biased. He is an orientalist of the negative kind. Do not expect to get an accurate or fair picture of the culture from his class.
  3. Sam is one of the best professors at Middlebury. Take Arabic with him.
