Evaluation Comments for Fee

  1. I would agree with other commenters. Professor Fee is really nice, but a rather unfortunate professor. Lectures are scattered. The class could have been better if he brought up topics for discussion more often. The class definitely challenged a lot of my notions of gender. As for the reading, it's true that you don't have to do it. I, however, did a majority of the reading assignments because the material is fascinating. (Dwight just kills it sometimes!)
  2. Dwight Fee is a great guy but not a great professor. Lectures are disorganized, random, and rarely lead to a point. This makes what could be a really interesting class a pretty dull lecture. Most of the readings are really interesting but you don't have to do them. The class is fun though, discussions are really interesting (although relatively useless), and if you need a SOC class or are interested in gender/sexuality, I would definitely take it.
  3. At midd, there is always a class that seems to go to the back burner in terms of time devoted to homework, class prep, and class attendence. This class is perfectly well suited to be that class. You lead one lecture section, take a midterm, and write 3 5page papers, no final. Lecture is terribly boring, nobody makes a single comment about the reading after about the 3rd week of class because nobody bothers doing it until right before papers are due (and really we just took a few quotes out of the readings and didn't do anything thoroughly), and in general you won't be challenged. It is interesting stuff from a psych and teaching perspective, and you can go where you want with it and learn as much or as little as you desire. It is an easy B/B+ or higher class, and hey, why not. Everybody loves gender.
  4. The info is interesting, but D Fee sucks the life out of it. He's a great guy, but doesn't bring any excitement to lectures.
  5. Fee is a nice guy, and clearly means well, but unfortunately that doesn't equate to being a good professor. Classes were often boring and almost painful as Fee tentatively threw out a whole bunch of ideas, but seemed unable to put together a cohesive lecture. Therefore, it was nearly impossible to take notes or maintain focus on what Fee was trying to say. It's too bad that most classes tended to be this way, because the course material was actually pretty interesting.
