Evaluation Comments for Sheridan M

  1. Fine class. Took it pass/fail which was a good choice since if I'd really been working to get A's in the class I would have had to put in a ton more effort than I already did. Sheridan's a pretty good teacher but came off as a little full of himself in my opinion.
  2. The material presented in this class was both incredibly terrifying and fascinating. Sheridan is a fantastic professor who is really passionate about what he is teaching. This class should be a requirement for all Middlebury students
  3. Definitely a bit depressing Sheridan's take on the state of the world - sad but true. But lots of the readings were very valuable and Sheridan is incredible accessible, passionate, enthusiastic, and open to feedback. I am a big fan of his, but was not a big fan of his lecture style and agree that it was a bit condescending, even if he didn't mean for it to be. Definitely a good eye-opener class for someone not already aware of the complexity of environmental and social problems facing our planet. So a mixed review. I'd ask someone you know who took it to get an opinion more specific to your own interests and needs.
  4. this has potential to be a great class with some powerful material, unfortunately professor sheridan ruins that. he is pompous and condescending. he loves to hear himself speak and talks incessantly about his own field work. he frequently only presents one (very bias) side to complex issues and doesn't leave any room for other opinions. discussions, although supposedly student lead, were dominated by him. as for the classwork, most of it is excessive and tedious. even if you turn turn in quality work he will try and snipe you at any chance he gets. i do not recommend this class or any one with this professor.
  5. The best class I have taken at Midd so far. Sheridan is an amazing teacher. You will love him if not for his corny jokes. He is always helpful, energetic and has so much to say. The course can be taken at a light level, but if you dig in there is a lot of meaning and you can take a lot from the class. He is preparing us for the future by teaching us about the past. Very cool stuff - it should be a school requirement, touches on sociology, ES, biology, history, geography. Just take the damn class.
  6. Incredible. You don't want the classes to end. Sheridan will take you on a ride through continents and academic fields, leaving you with a new outlook on the world. This course will definitely make you question the unquestionable. You'll spend a lot of time working (I averaged probably 9-11 hours), but it's definitely worth it. As another reviewer said, this should be a campus requirement.
  7. Professor Sheridan is knowledgable in and passionate about this subject. He is always available to give any kind of help. There is a lot of reading and all of the reading for the week must be done by Monday in order to turn in a one page response paper. Discussions on Fridays are student-lead. The positive energy and passion that Professor Sheridan brings to class make it easy to really engage with the material.
  8. This is an amazing class. Professor Sheridan is quirky, but passionate, and he will change the way you think about the world. The workload is pretty heavy, but Sheridan makes sure to incorporate every single reading into our discussions and assignments; there is no busy work, and your time spent reading is not wasted. This class should be required as part of every liberal arts education.
  9. One of the most valuable classes I've ever had at Midd. It was a real eye-opener.
  10. Incredible class. A lot of work, but definitely worth it. Should be a campus requirement. Take it!
  11. I really have enjoyed this class. Basically you learn about how humans interact with the environment...which covers a lot of different material. Professor Sheridan is a very engaging lecturer and always loves to listen to everyone's opinion. The discussions are student led, but he always jumps in when he sees people struggling. I took this class as a CW, and there wasn't that much extra work...just an additional 5 one page reviews, and you have to turn in a rough draft for the final research paper. I would recommend this class to everyone.
  12. Awesome Class! Prof Sheridan presents some really interesting information and is passionate about what he teaches. If you want to be shocked and concerned about the current state of the world, take this class! It will be worth your time!
