Evaluation Comments for Sheridan M

  1. The class is definitely a lot of work, but it is very rewarding. A sound understanding of the concepts is necessary for good grades. Discussion is also key. Sheridan is very open to discuss paper topics/themes with. High expectations but overall a wonderful class. Worth the time and effort.
  2. Sheridan's grading style was very haphazard and confusing and felt quite random at times. Then again, I never tried to visit him during office hours so it's possible he would have cleared that up for me. I'm not sure this is the best class to take without intro to anthropology because there were a lot of concepts that sort of went over my head. A good intro class to Sub-Saharan Africa, though, and important for overall education. Sheridan is a sweet guy, really friendly and goofy and a little awkward but in a great way. It's a lot of work, too, and sometimes the material is awful and boring, but sometimes it's super interesting and you get to watch cool documentaries for the media journal.

  4. Fabulous, but be ready to work work work. Good for anyone thinking about studying abroad in Africa, or just interested in it.
  5. One of the best classes I've taken at Middlebury. Professor Sheridan is incredibly excited about his students and material. Take this class!
