Evaluation Comments for Ramaswamy

  1. This class is setup as a way for IS majors to become familiar with the broad concepts within the international studies major. As a result, it is very broad, with a number of visiting professors coming in to talk about why they think you should consider their discipline. The two professors who team teach (for me, Ramaswamy and Barrow) are both excellent, and their talents are frankly wasted on such a scattered class. The visiting professors? lectures are random, out of context, and frequently boring. Readings are generally not necessary to keep up with, which makes the class fairly easy. Grades depend on the midterm and take home final, both of which are preceded by term lists, and two papers. Though the professors are excellent, I have to say that the only people I'd really recommend the class to are first-years who don't know what to major in, IS majors, and people looking for a fairly easy course.
